Latin from Scratch › READ Latin

You need to be reading Latin from the beginning!

Sure, studying the grammar, analyzing the morphology and the syntax, and translating texts are all very important and good to get your Latin muscles working, but... if you want to eventually read Latin, well, you need to practice reading Latin!

From the beginning!

Of course, you didn't learn how to read English with Chaucer, Shakespeare and all those good, old people; and, of course, you shouldn't try to start reading Latin with Ovid, Tacitus, Cicero or Vergil.

Let's start with something you can handle...

«Ora Maritima», by Sonnenschein

Starting practically from scratch, each chapter increases a little in difficulty and adds more vocabulary and grammatical content. In general, the syntax is quite easy, since the idea is to be able to read rather than analyze and translate.

It tells, more or less continuously and with ascending difficulty, about present-day (1900s-present, that is) England and mostly about Julius Caesar’s incursion against the Britons.
