Every once in a while someone asks me via mail, form, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter something like this:
What does buying the Latin course add over the videos that are available for free on LatinFromScratch.com and YouTube?
Reading between the lines:
You get a lot of free content… is it possible there’s even more?
I mean, people are surprised that so many of my contents are free: all the written theory is available to everyone, and practically all of it is explained in video, also publicly.
Why pay, then, some people ask.
The theory is in the manuals. It may be explained in one way or another, but the theory is already out there and can also be consulted free of charge.
There is a rule, almost an axiom, that everyone who enters the Internet has to take into account:
When something is free, it’s because you are the product.
The Zuckempire is free because with all the personal information you give it knows more about you than you do and can hyper-segment the advertising it shows you, which has made Facebook (etc.) one of the most profitable businesses of the moment.
At least when I was a kid, in supermarkets they offered you a little piece of cheese, a little piece of ham, a little piece of chocolate, for free, so that you could try it. And if you liked what they had, now you had to go and buy it with money.
I have a lot of free content, of course. For many searches related to Latin, LatinFromScratch.com appears in the first position in the search engines.
Someone wants to see the tables of the third declension and ends up on my website.
But whoever wants to see the tables of the third declension is because he is studying Latin.
Whoever is studying Latin also needs to put into practice all the theory.
It is the practice that is really important!!!!
That person needs to analyze, translate and have someone tell him how to do it and if what he has done is right; and if you have specific doubts after seeing the explanations of an experienced professional, someone will answer them.
There are no manuals for that.
Aaaamigo.
Now it’s time to pay.
Because all this is what is nowhere to be found.
Well, yes: in my Latin from scratch course.
Vale!
Paco
P. S. Remember: theory without practice is of little value, whereas practice is the proof of theory.
